Filippo Indoni Biography
Filippo Indoni, born in Rome in 1842, was a painter of genre scenes.
Initially, he used a realist style, but over the years he developed his own very individual pictorial style, characterized by a light and affected tone. However, he always portrayed the same subjects, such as the peasant girl in Ciociaria costume, the water girl or the shepherd children, much appreciated by the public. Unlike contemporary artists, such as Filippo Palizzi, Giuseppe Palizzi or Francesco Paolo Michetti, he was never interested in subjects of social criticism. He also created some works of clear orientalist inspiration, in a period in which this genre was particularly in vogue.
Indoni was very skilled in both oil and watercolor, and alternated between these two techniques throughout his career.
He participated in numerous exhibitions and art promotions throughout Italy, including an exhibition in Turin in 1884, enjoying great success among the public.
