Wolfango Intelisano Biography
Wolfango Intelisano, aka TELIS, was born in Noto (Sr) in 1942, but is a naturalized Syracusan, as he has lived and worked in Syracuse for about 40 years. He currently teaches at the ISA and at the BB.AA Academy. "Mario Minniti" of Syracuse; he held an art workshop in Canicattini Bagni (Sr), Via Alfeo 20 and also in Rome in Via Voghera 9, as well as in Syracuse in Via Gargallo 68. He studied first at the Art Institute of Syracuse, graduating in drawing and painting in 1962, and then in Rome, Milan and Switzerland. He made his painting debut in 1958 and returned to Syracuse in 1969, after obtaining the Chair of Artistic Planning at the ISA. Initial exhibitions: City Prize (Termini Imerese, '63), Exhibition of 5 Syracusan artists (Rome, '67), Ortigia Prize (Syracuse, '68), Acrense Landscape Prize ('68), Brucoli Prize ('69), Personal Exhibition (SR,'69), Italian Art in the World (Turin,'70) . For some critics, "man is the protagonist of his work and is seen in his disarmed fight against false totems....."; according to N. Gionfriddo, "this artist's work is a gallery of characters defeated by the inhumane modern society, so alienating......" . In '78 he was the organizer of the exhibition "I fatti di Avola". In the '80s he collaborated on the birth of "Tema Celeste" with M. Castello and D. Paparoni. Between '87 and '91 he was active in Rome, where he exhibited a series of works on tar paper and oilcloths in relief. In 1987 he created a large fresco in Benevento with the theme "Man, being, nature". In 1988 he participated in the new research of the latest Italian artistic generation in Zagreb. In 1989 in Brescia "Fabbrica", new artistic language; Fair (Cologne, '89), Identità per l'art (Savona, '89), Studio G. Vigato (Alessandria, '90). He stayed in Arles (France) in 1990, dedicating a cycle of thirty works on paper treated with sulfur and wax to Van Gogh. In '91 he was in Munich (Germany) to create works on paper at the Modern Kunst Gallery. In '94 and '95 he stayed in various locations in South America, where the Museum of Contemporary Art of Caracas commissioned him to produce a series of works on paper, as well as a floor sculpture in iron and marble. In '96/'97 he exhibited a cycle of works "Cold Fusion" in Rome, addressing the work as a continuously changing energy field; Art Gallery Internet (Rome, '97); large anthological exhibition at Palazzo dei Diamanti (Ferrara, '98), Beaux Arts University (Luxor-Egypt, '99), d'AC - Municipal Gallery of Contemporary Art (Ciampino, '99), Chioda-Rome ('99) ,Palazzetto dell'arte (Foggia,2000), Galleria Prometeo (Catanzaro, 2000), Artforum (Sr,2000). In recent years his field of research has focused on the Extreme and on the Shroud, demonstration of the absolute intangibility of the mystery, as well as a "sheet wound relic dispersion".
