Marino Iotti Biography

Marino Iotti was born in Reggio Emilia in 1954, and while still very young he began a pictorial journey that would come to interest authors such as Achille Bonito Oliva, Claudio Cerritelli, Francesca Baboni, Giuseppe Berti, Marinella Paderni, Massimo Mussini and Sandro Parmiggiani. He learned the technical basics by attending the courses that Prof. Giulio Soriani held at the Piccola Accademia of Regina Pacis, and subsequently with the sculptor Ugo Sterpini. In 1978 he began his exhibition activity in Scandiano (RE) with “Studio Aperto”, a studio/gallery that wanted to be a point of meeting and discussion between artists. Although increasingly fascinated by aniconic painting, Iotti dedicated part of the early 1980s to the study of twentieth-century Italian painting. There are numerous painted portraits, with a strong psychological imprint, inspired by artists such as Casorati, Funi, Sironi. Study that allows the artist to strengthen their technical skills. But it is with artists such as Graham Sutherland and Giacometti that the gradual transition to an initially symbolic language (with themes such as ecology and the horror of war) occurs and then to an abstract/informal painting.
