Benito Jacovitti Biography
Benito Jacovitti is a famous Italian cartoonist, born in Termoli in 1923. From a young age, he demonstrated great humorous talent and in 1940 he made his debut on the pages of the comic Il Vittorioso with the series of the three reckless boys Pippo, Pertica and Palla, who will remain his most well-known and appreciated characters over the years. In 1957 he created the series of Cocco Bill, a parodic Western vigilante, for the weekly supplement of Il Giorno, and that of Tom Nosy, based on the hilarious adventures of a news journalist. Jacovitti is one of the few classic Italian authors famous even outside the world of comics, with his name preceding that of the characters he created. Thanks to his explosive humor, his unmistakable trait and his obsession with feet, salami and flying fish, Jacovitti has been involved in many successful editorial initiatives, even outside of his most famous characters. Among these stands out Kamasultra, a series of four comic-erotic books published in 1977 with texts by Marcello Marchesi, accompanied by illustrations by Jacovitti. Throughout his career, Jacovitti has always demonstrated great creativity and ability to reinvent himself, and has collaborated with many other successful authors. In 2018 two presentation tables, containing a mini-autobiography of the artist, were published for the first time in the series Cocco Bill and the best of Jacovitti, edited by Luca Boschi for Hachette Fascicoli.
