Alain Jacquet (1939 - 2008) was a French painter and graphic designer and an important representative of the American Pop Art movement. Alain Jacquet studied architecture at the University of Grenoble and the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. As a painter he was self-taught. He held his first solo exhibition in 1961 at the Breteau Gallery in Paris. In 1961 he participated in the Paris Biennial and again in 1965, where he was also represented at the San Marino Biennial. In 1968 he participated in the 4th Documenta in Kassel with 10 pop art graphic works. In the early 1960s he was co-founder of the artistic movement Mec'art (mechanical art). Jacquet lived in New York City and Paris and taught at the École national supérieure des arts décoratifs. He was married to Sophie Matisse, great-granddaughter of the French painter Henri Matisse. Jacquet died of esophageal cancer in Manhattan in 2008.
