Ernesto Jannini Biography

Ernesto Jannini was born in Naples in 1950. He lives and works in Milan. “He is certainly one of the most significant exponents of the generation that emerged in Italy immediately after the Transavantgarde in the second half of the eighties and boasts an important curriculum where participations in the Venice Biennials of 1976 and 1990 stand out. The works after 2000 are almost all centered on the nature/culture dialectic, wall installations with bright bright colors where lemons, apples and other familiar elements from the plant world are placed on everted supports and show, through slight cracks at their tops, the disturbing presence of microchip circuits . In his most recent works Jannini addresses the most burning issues of our contemporary world, investigating with detachment and irony the relationship between nature and technology and, ultimately, the relationship between war, the sense of the absurd and the lucid madness that in many cases substantiate the projects of Western societies. Through the immediacy of the installations and performances Jannini gives us images of the contradictions in which men struggle, the responsibilities and the power games that have led to a prevailing determinism. On the side of painting, conceived as a practice of silence, the author is ready to capture the lost innocence of dogs, flowers or fruits: images constantly crossed by a horizontal strip of microcircuits.
