Bost Jerome Biography

Jérôme Bost (1942 - ) is a French artist born in 1942. He was accepted in 1960 at the Beaux-Arts in Le Havre and then joined the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris. The year 1962 finds him in Florence. The spirit of the Tuscan Renaissance marked him profoundly. Then he moved to Paris, where he remained from 1963 to 1969; he is interested in the work of the major precursors of contemporary art: Bacon, de Kooning, Giacometti, Mousteguy and practices an expressionist painting in which the gesture is essential, always in search of his own pictorial expression. He collaborated as a graphic designer on the first color television programs with Jean-Christophe Averty. In 1969 he went to Japan. It was the beginning of a four-year journey to the Far East, during which he worked on nature studies in oil pastel. In 1973 he settled in Haute Provence and undertook a twenty-year journey of methodical research, in oil pastels, on his relationship with the landscape. In 1993 he began an investigation on the city of Paris in continuity with his previous work. Since 1999 it has had a new theme: the ocean. He is represented by the Albert Loeb Gallery in Paris and the Sakiko Gallery in New York.
