Luis Jiménez Aranda was a French painter, born in Seville on 21 June 1845 and died on 1 March 1928 in Pontoise. He was known for his genre and costumbriste works. He got his first art lessons from his older brother, José, and later studied at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de Santa Isabel de Hungría under the direction of Eduardo Cano and Antonio Cabral Bejarano. In 1868, with the support of a patron, he had the opportunity to travel to Rome and complete his studies with Marià Fortuny. Subsequently, he moved to Pontoise, where he lived until the end of his life. In the 1880s, he began to paint en plein air in the surrounding area. He participated in numerous exhibitions at the Salon, receiving various awards, including an honorable mention in 1864 for a painting depicting Christopher Columbus. Luis Jiménez Aranda died on March 1, 1928 in Pontoise.
