Mimmo Jodice is one of the great photographers in the history of Italian photography. He lives in Naples where he was born in 1934. An avant-garde photographer since the 1960s, attentive to the experiments and expressive possibilities of the photographic language, he has been a tireless protagonist in the cultural debate which led to the growth and subsequently to the affirmation of Italian photography also in the international field. In 1980 he published VIEWS OF NAPOLI which marked a turning point in his language and contributed to providing a new vision of the urban landscape and architecture. In 1981 he participated in the exhibition EXPRESSION OF HUMAN CONDITION, curated by Van Deren Coke, at the San Francisco Museum of Art with Diana Arbus, Larry Clark, William Klein, Lisette Model. In 1985 he began a long and in-depth research on the myth of the Mediterranean. The result is a book MEDITERRANEAN, published by Aperture, New York, and an exhibition at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Philadelphia.
