Eivind Johansen Biography

Eivind Johansen (1920 - ?) Born in Kroderen, Norway in 1920, his mother died when he was only 2 years old, so he was cared for by relatives on a local farm. He left school very early and helped his family by working on their farm. At the age of 15 he moved to his sister in the nearest town, Drammen. Eivind had saved up money to go to school and get a "business letter" needed to start a business. In 1939 coincidence gave him the opportunity to purchase a punching machine and a sewing machine with which he founded the company at just 19 years old. Growing up on a farm, he found it easy to obtain wool from his old contacts and thus began making wool insoles. World War II broke out in Norway only a year after it began operations, and with it came very difficult times. After the war, without any training in the textile industry, Eivind purchased his first knitting machine in 1945 and hired his first employees. After a few years he hired Elsa, who soon became his wife. Together they built a modern factory and established shops that served the local market. They had two sons, Tone and Jan Eivind Johansen. Jan is now the owner of Aclima and while still working at the company, he was able to gain the textile education that his father had not had the opportunity to learn.
