Borje Johanson Biography
Börje Johanson founded “Bröderna Johansons Fåtöljindustri” in 1953, a company specializing in the production of cushions. The company's first product was a pouf made around a wood wool core, padded with cotton wadding and covered in imitation leather, with the addition of triangles of different colors arranged in the shape of a star. This product achieved immediate success. In the 1960s, Johanson Design became famous for producing the egg-shaped "Venus" chair, which became one of the best-selling pieces of furniture in the company's history. Even today, "Venus" remains a much loved model used in numerous bars, restaurants, nightclubs, cruise ships, offices and private homes around the world. In the mid-1990s, Johanson Design passed entirely into the hands of brothers Dan and Paul Johanson. The next breakthrough came with Leo Thafvelin's "Snaps" bar stool, which enjoyed great international success and achieved iconic status. Today, Johanson is an international company with 60 employees and customers in the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
