Sidney Jordan Biography
Sydney Jordan (1928 - ) is a comics artist best known for his daily science fiction strip Jeff Hawke, published in the Daily Express from 1955 to 1974. Initially attracted to a career in flying, he then studied at Miles Aircraft Technical College, Reading . Unable to find work, he joined a small artists' studio in Dundee, his place of birth. He thus assisted Len Fullerton in his comic strip "Dora, Toni and Liz" and invented a new science fiction character, Orion. In 1952 he moved to London and began working for the Man's World agency. Here, he invents "Dick Hercules", and presents his character of Orion to the Daily Express, who advised him to transform his hero into an RAF pilot: thus Jeff Hawke was born. After the first airplane episodes, "Jeff Hawke" manages to become very popular. Sydney Jordan and his friend Willy Patterson, who wrote the screenplays, dedicated themselves to this series, which appeared until 1974 and was translated and published in countries throughout Europe. In the mid-1970s Jordan produced the "Hall Star" one-shot for the Dutch comics weekly Eppo, which he did not complete until the mid-1980s. It was released in 1987 and 1988 as "Stranded on Thyton".
