Pier Carlo Jorio Biography

Piercarlo Jorio (1927 - 2016) attended classical high school and graduated in Architecture at the Polytechnic of Turin. Student and collaborator of Carlo Mollino, he specialized in Industrial Design in the 1970s. Painter and sculptor, he participated, upon invitation, in national and international exhibitions from 1951 to 1968. He revealed himself as a highly talented poet with the published collection Notes degli addii which emerged at the edition of the Bontempelli-Marinetti Prize (Golden Plaque 1983) . He collaborated with the National Mountain Museum on the creation of the exhibition on the entities of religiosity (Turin, 1985). He was President of the Scientific Committee of the Museum of the people of the Lanzo Valleys, for which he wrote the ethnological guide. He participated in the permanent seminar on Alpine Ethnology in Trento and, since 1946, was a member of the Historical Society of the Lanzo Valleys. Winner ex-aequo of the Costantino Pavan Prize (1986) and the Gambrinus – Mazzotti prize (1987), he was also nominated for the Itas Alpine Literature Special Prize (1989). In 2011 he won the sixth edition of the Emilio Gay Poetry Prize as first place.
