Kazuhiro Yamanaka Biography
Kazuhiro Yamanaka was born in Tokyo in 1971. He attended the Royal College of Art in London, where he completed his training as a designer. In 1997 he opened his own studio, "kazuhiroyamanakaoffice". Particularly attracted by light and its forms, Yamanaka has created poetic installations in Milan, London, Paris and New York.
His projects have been exhibited in prestigious museums such as the MoMA and the Cooper-Hewitt in New York, the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and the Laforet Museum in Tokyo. In addition to his work as a designer, Yamanaka has created products for numerous international companies, including Alessi, Pallucco, Boffi, Ingo Maurer and Colette.
His work navigates between the emptiness and fullness of surfaces, the subtle game of trompe-l'oeil and the harmony of proportions. For him, designers should contemplate the void surrounding objects, the space between objects and the relationship of things to each other. The furniture, objects and lighting that make up a space should be read as a constellation of stars, linked together by imaginary lines that constitute the harmony that surrounds them.
Each object has a three-dimensional written story and the designer's task is to create maximum impact with minimum use of material.
