Imao Keinen was a Japanese painter and print designer, born in Kyoto in 1845 and died in 1924. During his career, which developed between the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, he received important recognition from the world of art, including being appointed artist of the imperial house in 1904. Imao Keinen was a Japanese painter and print designer, born in Kyoto in 1845 and died in 1924. During his career, which developed between the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, he received important recognition from the world of art, including being appointed artist of the imperial house in 1904. In 1880 he obtained a professorship at the Kyoto School of Painting, while, in 1892, the publication of the album Keinen Kachō Gafu made him a member of the Artistic Committee of the imperial court . The album, composed of numerous woodcuts of birds and flowers, represents one of Keinen's most important works. In 1919 he was also made a member of the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts. Keinen died in his hometown in 1924.
