Ivan Vasilievitch Kliun Biography
Ivan Vasilyevich Klyun (1873-1943) was a Russian painter, avant-garde artist (supremacist, constructivist), graphic artist and sculptor. In 1881 together with the whole family he moved to Ukraine. In 1890 he moved to Russian Poland, which was part of the Russian Empire at the time. Ivan Klyun studied at the Penza art school. From 1890 to 1905 he studied art in the studios of F. Rerberg, Il. Mashkov and V. Fisher in Moscow. From 1907 to 1914 he studied at the Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg. From 1910 to 1914 he participated in exhibitions of the Soyuz Molodyozhi (Youth Union) artist group together with David Burliuk, Wladimir Burliuk, Kazimir Malevich, Pavel Filonov, Vladimir Tatlin, Yuri Annenkov and others. In 1915 Klyun participated in exhibitions of the Tramway V group. In the same year he joined the Supremus group of artists led by Malevich. In 1916 he collaborated with the supremacist-artists Kazimir Malevich, Aleksandra Ekster, Nina Genke, Liubov Popova, Nadezhda Udaltsova and others at the Verbovka Village Folk Center.
