Johann Bernhard Klombeck, born on 1 July 1815 near Kleve, was a landscape painter belonging to the Romantic movement of Kleve. Young Johann received the basics of painting and his first lessons from his uncle. From 1841, he began attending the Art Academy in Kleve under the influence of Barend Cornelis Koekkoek, a famous Dutch landscape painter. Klombeck loved to paint primarily landscapes of the Lower Rhine and the Netherlands, characterized by gnarled oak trees, castle ruins, and dramatic cloud compositions. During his creative period, he met the Belgian painter Eugène Verboeckhoven, who specialized in animals and human figures. Together, they created "animated" landscape paintings with details of people and animals, often signed by both artists. Klombeck died on November 28, 1893 in Kleve.
