Pavel Klusancev Biography
Peter Kulusancev was born in St. Petersburg in 1910. After graduating from the Leningrad Fototechnikum in 1930, he began working for Belgoskino as a cinematographer for four years. In 1934, he moved to Lenfilm/Lennauchfilm, where he developed his career as a film director and producer. In particular, he directed science education films, including Road to the Stars (1957), a visionary film that blends science and fiction, precisely depicting the visual effects of weightlessness, construction in Earth's orbit, a rotating spacecraft and the journey of a rocket to the moon. Planet of the Storms (Planeta Bur), his only feature film, was released in 1962, and he is noted for the meticulous design of "John the Robot", one of the most technically complex robot suits of its time, with over 42 points of articulation on the main joints of the body. Klushantsev fell out of favor in the USSR after the film, and continued to make scientific films until 1972, when his services were discontinued. Klushantsev died in 1999 at the age of 89.
