George Sheridan Knowles was a British painter primarily known for his portraits and genre scenes. Born on 25 November 1863 in Manchester, he received his education at the Manchester School of Art and the Royal Academy Schools in London. Like many other Victorian artists of his time, Knowles' works often depicted nostalgic scenes from previous centuries, with subjects in costume, as can be seen in his work "Autumn Melody" (1908). He was a member of the Royal Society of British Artists and the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours. He died on 15 March 1931 in London.
