Serge Korber Biography

Sergio Korber, also known by the pseudonym John Thomas, was born in Paris in 1936. After leaving school at the age of 14 he began a career as an apprentice upholsterer. He discovered his passion for reading and poetry through his friends from the Communist Youth and by frequenting the bars in the Contrescarpe neighborhood, where he met many artists. Together with a friend, Jean-Pierre Suc, he opened the Le Cheval d'Or cabaret and created the Methode on rue Descartes where Raymond Devos made his debut. In 1958, Korber met Guy Debord, founder of the Situationist International, becoming his first assistant for the short film "On the Passage of a Few People in a Fairly Short Period of Time." However, the collaboration between the two ends and Korber is fired during the editing phase. Throughout the 1960s, Korber directed several short films and in 1966 his first feature film "Le Dix-septième ciel". In 1975, he abandoned popular comedy to direct pornographic films under the pseudonym John Thomas, starring actors such as Alain Saury, Gabriel Pontel and Richard Allan. He also attempted to modernize the character of Louis de Funès in some films, but was unsuccessful.
