Mark Kostabi Biography

(Los Angeles, November 27, 1960). He studied drawing and painting at California State University. In 1982, he moved to New York and from 1984 became an important figure of reference within the East Village artistic movement. During these years he enjoyed the provocative use of mass media with self-interviews on the theme of contemporary art. Since 1987 he has been recognized as an international artist as his works are requested by galleries in Japan, the United States, Australia and Germany. In 1988 he founded "Kostabi World": his studio, gallery and office in New York. Thanks to the many assistants, this structure produces around 1000 paintings a year, of which only a small part bears the master's signature. Since 1996 he has divided his life between New York and Rome where he becomes a model for many Italian artists. In recent years he has dedicated himself to the design of advertising brands including Swatch watches, espresso cups, computer accessories and recently recreated the pink jersey of the Giro d'Italia.
