Arthur Kostner Biography
Arthur Kostner is an artist born in Appiano, in the province of Bolzano, in 1954. He currently lives and works in Bolzano, where he dedicates himself to his artistic research in the field of minimalism and conceptualism.
Kostner's artistic production is characterized by the use of assembled and juxtaposed pieces, often unique, which the artist seems to caress through the soft application of color. The raw material maintains its natural roughness and veining, on which the absorbed pigment traces the dimension of pulsating presences. It is a "sculptural-pictorial" solution that combines the plastic possibilities of color with the spatial capacity of painting.
Kostner creates spatial pieces that articulate situations of solids and voids, building a new dialectical and dynamic definition for the surrounding environment. In his recent paintings, we observe an abundance of vaguely decorative motifs, of small tiles in different tones of color which, placed close to each other, create a light texture of precious glazes.
Kostner's work suggests presences, large and small moments, where the fragmentation of the reality of the present seems to determine the becoming and representation of forms. Images of themselves, forces of a nature represented in matter now transformed and once again docile to the change introduced by skilled hands and thought which thus challenge the possible and unnecessary aspect of existence.
Kostner's reality oscillates in a vibrant movement, which underlies the poetic strength of color and matter itself, which intertwines secrets with brazenly inert yet pulsating forms. The language of wood transforms into the language of poetry, while the song of the element of nature becomes the destination, the landing point of every language.
