Mauro Kunst Biography
Mauro Kunst was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil in 1930. Argentine citizen by option since 1956, resident in Great Britain from 1962 to 1980 and resident in Mexico since 1980. He graduated in architecture from the Universidad Nacional del Litoral, Argentina; in 1961-62 he obtained a scholarship for a postgraduate course in industrial design at the Hornsey College of Arts and Crafts in London. Kunst has dedicated himself to the study and practice of various aspects of design since 1950, has directed art and design centers in Argentina and England, lectured at universities and schools, taught design courses and edited specialized magazines. Founding member of Group One Four, a team dedicated to the experimentation, dissemination and research of certain aesthetic currents. With this group and individually he has presented exhibitions since 1955 in Argentina, the United States, Mexico, Holland, Spain, Belgium, Great Britain, Italy, Poland, Sweden, Denmark and other countries. Some of his works are found in museums and private collections. In 1973 he received the Wrocklaw Museum Prize at the Fifth Biennial of Polish Press. He was vice president of ICOGRADA from 1977 to 1980 and coordinator of ICOGRADALATINOAMÉRICA in 1980. He was invited as a jury by various art and design institutions in Argentina and Europe. He has written numerous articles for specialized magazines and similar. Since 1990, his role has consisted primarily of studying and researching the arts and design of this century, with a special interest in Mexican craftsmanship. Design, promote and preserve all that is popular and original art.
