Mario Labò was born in Genoa on 17 September 1884. In 1910 he graduated in Architecture from the Polytechnic. After graduating, in Turin, he collaborated with Annibale Rigotti's studio, where he learned a taste for Viennese secessionist art through the study of the works of Behrens, Wagner, Olbrich, Crane and Baillie-Scott. He writes for many newspapers, so much so that he combines his journalistic commitment with his interest in local politics. In 1920 he was appointed City Councilor on the Socialist Party list and in 1922 he became Councilor for Fine Arts and History of the Municipality of Genoa. Labò promoted an intense cultural program and carried out restoration interventions on the church of S. Agostino, on the cloisters of S. Lorenzo, of S. Andrea and on the house of Colombo. It has allocated funds for the acquisition of works of art and for the reorganization of archives, civic libraries and municipal collections. At the IV Triennale in 1930, he presented some objects from the "Decorazioni Industrie Artistiche Nuovi Arredamenti", a company he founded in 1928 to promote and innovate the applied arts in Liguria. From 1945 to 1954 he was president of the Ligustica Academy of Fine Arts in Genoa. Mario Labò died in Genoa on 13 February 1961.
