Malo (Vicenza), 1909 - Milan, 1988. After his initial experience at a graphic establishment he made his debut in Schio in 1926, presenting seven paintings at the National Exhibition of Pictorial Visions of Pasubio. He later took part in the First International Exhibition of Sacred Art in Padua (1931) and in 1937 he settled in Milan, coming into contact with some of Corrente's protagonists including Renato Birolli and exhibiting at the group's two Milanese exhibitions. His painting, which finds a constant source of inspiration in the landscape, is lyrical and evocative and shows that he has reworked the lesson of Paul Cézanne, whose pre-cubist matrix emerges in some post-war paintings (Self-portrait, 1950; The Pipe Smoker, 1954). Having obtained the Bellagio National Prize in 1946, the artist participated in the Venice Biennials, the Roman Quadrennials and the Permanente exhibitions in Milan, receiving other awards including the gold medal from the Municipality of Milan on the occasion of the exhibition at the Galleria Annunciata in 1971. His pictorial activity, which from the end of the 1950s to the early 1970s experienced a phase of approach to abstractionism - documented by works such as Reflections at Sunset or The Winter Vineyard - is accompanied by his teaching activity, carried out initially as a teacher of ornamentation at the Liceo Artistico di Brera and later as holder of the chair of painting at the Braidense Academy.
