Sir Edwin Henry Landseer (London, 7 March 1802 – London, 1 October 1873) was an English painter and sculptor of the Victorian era known for his paintings of fairies and his scenes with animals. His best-known work is the lions of Trafalgar Square, London. Landseer, a pupil of Robert Haydon, made his debut as a painter in 1815, at the age of thirteen, at the Royal Academy of which he became a member eleven years later. He was Queen Victoria's favorite painter and portraitist of the high society of the time. His best paintings are oil paintings depicting the Highlands; among the portraits, "The Marquess of Stafford", 1838, and "Sir Walter Scott", 1858. Two of his paintings ("Low Fife" and "High Life") were used respectively for the cover and back of the Pampered Menial album by Pavlov's Dog.
