James Lang is a British artist currently living and working in London, having returned from Beijing in June 2022 after almost 5 years in China. He graduated from Liverpool School of Art in 2011 and Camberwell College of Art in 2013 with a Master of Visual Arts. Living in China has been a transformative experience. The distance made him feel closer to the culture he had left behind. This led to a series of works inspired by British history, culture and childhood cartoons. The paintings are diverse in their approach ranging from thickly layered pieces to loosely applied works, from punchy tropical colors to blurry monochrome images, often varying between sincerity and satire. The works have been exhibited in both the UK and China and purchased by private collectors internationally.
