Cesare Lapini was born in Florence in 1848 and grew up immersed in the renowned artistic context of the city. His works, often depicting women partially dressed and wrapped in drapes, demonstrate the love that Lapini had for the artistic production that surrounded him. Lapini's great skill as a sculptor lay in his ability to create folds of cloth and draped linen with marble, thus rendering their softness through the hardness of the stone. In 1884 Cesare Lapini's work was brought to a wider audience when some of his creations were exhibited at the Esposizione Generale Italiana in Turin. The emotional quality and evident technique of his finely patinated statues led to great popularity for the artist. Lapini thus became in great demand and his works were sold throughout Europe and the United States. Cesare Lapini died in 1890.
