Francesco Lauretta Biography
Francesco Lauretta (1964 - ) is an artist born in Ispica in Sicily and who lives and works in Florence. A multifaceted artist, he ranges from painting to installations, often using heterogeneous and recycled materials and following from time to time the common thread of a project that almost never ends within the space of the canvas. He is known in the artistic world for his extraordinary ability to interpret the world through painting, often not limited to the two-dimensional of the painting, but rather extended to three-dimensional space through the use of heterogeneous, commonly used materials, which give life to multisensory installations. What distinguishes part of his production is the careful definition of formal detail, the chromatic liveliness, the surprising cuts with which he frames the subject, the insertions of figures, colors and elements that make the work enigmatic and its reading multiple. The most frequent subjects are folkloristic, popular and tell the local traditions especially of his Sicily. Angels singing a song, processions, village festivals, funerals. If there are few portraits, on the contrary there are many self-portraits in which Lauretta takes on other guises.
