Maurice Leloir, born in 1853, received his first teachings on painting from his mother and brother, both artists. Leloir decided to dedicate his art to creating illustrations for classical works, which would influence his interest in ancient customs, particularly those of the 18th century. Thanks to his passion for this specific subject, Leloir became a skilled master in the field, which at the time was little studied and known only by theater costume designers and historical painters. At the time, Maurice was considered an unfailing master of creating historical scenes, and his reputation prompted him to create advertisements for department stores, spice shops and hotels. In 1903, he was commissioned to create eighteenth-century style scenes of the Trianon and Versailles for the Tijuca villa. Leloir died in 1940.
