Marino Lenci was born in Naples in 1874 and after leaving his job in a bank, he attended the Institute of Fine Arts in Naples. Subsequently, he moved to Venice where he frequented the studio of the painter Luigi Nono. Returning to Naples, Lenci taught drawing to the sons of the Turkish consul. He mainly used the pastel technique, with which he painted portraits, genre scenes and above all pets, dogs and cats, which it is said that he was surrounded by and which certainly represent his maximum artistic expression. Lenci paid great attention to the volumetric forms of his animals, managing to highlight their characteristic momentum and the elegance of their poses. But his greatest skill consisted in obtaining, through the use of chicken feathers, real and shiny images of animal hair, processing with patience and mastery. Lenci died in Naples in 1941.
