Leonardi Nello (Reggio Emilia, 1917-2004) was a painter, draftsman and engraver. A pupil of Guidi and Morandi at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna, he later taught at the Chierici drawing school in Reggio Emilia. He exhibited for the first time in '48 in Bologna, at the Mostra Interprovinciale d'Arte dell'Emilia Romagna; he held his first solo exhibition in 1958 in Reggio Emilia. Subsequently, he participated in numerous other exhibitions. The Municipality of Reggio Emilia dedicated an important anthology to him in 1985. In 1950-1951, together with Zancanaro, Mucchi, Guttuso, Treccani, Mazzacurati and Levi, he exposed himself personally in the struggles of the workers of the Officine Reggiane, performing on this subject a series of paintings and serigraphs. At the beginning of the 1940s his style was realist, only to then approach the Informal at the end of the 1950s. In his subsequent production Leonardi establishes himself as an authentic "naturalist" painter, who finds his inspiration in the rural world and makes the privileged relationship with nature the central theme of his production.
