Giovanni Lessi was born in Florence in 1851.
Son of the famous painter and set designer Agostino Lessi, after having attended the Academy of Florence, he made his debut as an artist in the autumn of 1876. Giovanni Lessi was born in Florence in 1851.
Son of the famous painter and set designer Agostino Lessi, after having attended the Academy of Florence, he made his debut as an artist in the autumn of 1876. Only from 1881, his presence at the Florentine exhibitions became regular, exhibiting urban views and genre paintings of impressionist inspiration. In 1884 and 1885, together with his father, he created the cartoons of the choir lofts of the Florence Cathedral.
It was during the late 1980s that Lessi probably made a trip to Paris, as his various works on French subjects seem to indicate. Furthermore, in 1903 he was employed as a designer for the Cantagalli ceramics factory. His most significant works include “A chatter of women in the rain” of 1881, “The avenue of hills” of 1882, “A foggy day in Paris” of 1886, “Piazza di Spagna at dusk” and the “Caffè del Bottegone” from 1890-1891. Giovanni Lessi died in 1922.
