Giovanni Lomi was born in Livorno in 1889. He was orphaned at just 6 years old and was entrusted to a peasant family. He did various jobs, but was taken by a passion for drawing and painting which became the main purpose of his life. He began his artistic journey around 1918, holding his first solo exhibition in Florence in 1922: over forty more followed until 1969 when his last solo exhibition was held in Milan at the Ronzini gallery. Giovanni Lomi, however, cultivates another passion: equipped with a beautiful baritone voice, he successfully dedicates himself to opera. A world from which he will also draw inspirations and cultural motifs for painting. Lomi was a man of culture and participated, always with enthusiasm and liveliness, in the cultural life in Tuscany and other Italian regions, from the first decades of the twentieth century until the last years of his life. He traveled frequently until the 1950s, in Italy and abroad, his paintings bear witness to these experiences.
