Arrigo Lora - Totino (1928 - 2016) is a master of Italian concrete and sound poetry. After his first experiences as a painter, he dedicated himself to poetry in all its experimental forms. In 1959 he founded the magazine “Antipiugiù”, which he edited for four issues until 1966. In 1964 he founded the Aesthetic Information Studio in Turin, with Enore Zaffiri and Sandro De Alexandris. In 1966 he created the magazine “Modulo”. The first and only issue of the publication is dedicated to concrete poetry. In the same year he curated the exhibition of "concrete poetry" as part of the exhibition "The reading of visual language" at the Faculty of Architecture of Turin. In 1968 he published his first album: Liquid Poetry and in 1969 he curated the exhibition “Concrete Poetry” with Dietrich Mahlow. Concrete, visual and phonetic addresses” at the Venice Biennale. Starting from 1974 he began his performative activities with "liquid poetry" and "gymnastic poetry". In 1977 he created the “Cromofonemi”. In 1976 the series of "mimodeclamations" dedicated to the historical avant-gardes began. In 1978 he staged the show “Futura” with the dancer Valeria Magli directed by Lorenzo Vitalone. In that year he edited the historic edition of “Futura. Sound poetry” in seven 33 Rpm LPs for the Cramps editions of Milan. In 1979 he formed the sound poetry group "Il dolce stilsono" with Sergio Cena, Agostino Contò, Giovanni Fontana, Milli Graffi, Giulia Niccolai, Adriano Spatola and F. Tiziano. In 1980 he curated the thirteen-episode radio broadcast for RAI 2. The glottal stop”. In 1994 he promoted with Ivano Burani the establishment of the "Baobab" group, with Antonio Amendola, Carla Bertola, Tomaso Binga, Giovanni Fontana, Alberto Vitacchio, Giuliano Zosi and others. Arrigo Lora Totino has taken part in hundreds of exhibitions, art reviews, concrete, visual, phonetic and sound poetry festivals in Italy and abroad.
