Gustave Lorain (1882 - 1965) attended the Ecole Guerin, where Eugène Grasset taught from 1890 until the school closed in 1903.
Lorain came under the stylistic influence of Grasset, but also demonstrated his own artistic talent and character by winning a commission to design a poster for the magazine “Art et Decoration”. Lorain came under the stylistic influence of Grasset, but also demonstrated his own artistic talent and character by winning a commission to design a poster for the magazine “Art et Decoration”. This magazine represented the main French source of Art Nouveau and had a close relationship with the school of the same name. Lorain then earned medals at the Salons des Artistes Français in 1921 and 1925.
