Ponziano Loverini was born in Gandino on 6 July. From a young age he demonstrated a predisposition for drawing which allowed him to attend courses at the Carrara Academy in Bergamo, under the guidance of Enrico Scuri, from 1848 to 1869. After his studies, the young Loverini returned to Gandino, where he had the opportunity to acquire an excellent visual mastery of pictorial art by visiting the Basilica of Gandino, which served as a museum. It was probably this experience that influenced his palette characterized by strong chromatic highlights. Over the years, he received numerous awards and, in 1869, he began to exhibit his works at the Academy's educational exhibition, receiving excellent reviews. Thanks to the numerous works with a religious background and the portraits commissioned by members of the Lombard nobility, Loverini established himself in the artistic panorama. His artistic career ended in 1929 with his death in Gandino.
