David Lowell Rich Biography
David Lowell Rich was born in New York in 1923 and began his career in the chaotic world of live television. In 1957, he directed his first feature film, JD's melodrama No Time to Be Young. He later directed other films, such as the Three Stooges "comeback" feature Have Rocket Will Travel in 1959 and the calypso music quickie Hey Boy! Hey girl! in the same year. Over the years, Rich joined Universal's pool of television directors, with occasional big screen productions, including Madame X in 1966 and The Plainsman in 1967. In 1966, Universal began producing films for TV and Rich has become one of the most prolific directors in the field. He directed a wide range of TV films, including Enola Gay: The Men, the Mission, the Atomic Bomb in 1983, A Family Upside Down in 1978, The Hearst and Davies Affair in 1984, and The Defection of Simas Kudrika in 1978 , for which he won an Emmy.
