Giorgio Lucchesi was born on 26 December 1855 in Lucca. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Lucca, under the guidance of Luigi Norfini, later becoming his collaborator. After starting out with an academic language of neoclassicist origin, he approached the representation of genre scenes and landscapes, with a more realistic representation of the world. Starting from the 1880s, Lucchesi dedicated himself to the depiction of fruit, so much so that King Umberto I granted him the San Rossore estate, where the painter drew inspiration for some of his most famous works composed of hunting scenes and representations of animals. His works were characterized by an almost photographic rendering of details and great care in the reconstruction of interiors. Lucchesi died in Lucca on 10 February 1941.
