In 1926 the architect Luciano Baldessari named Luminator, a prototype of a coat hanger lamp he designed. The prototype of the first Luminator Bernocchi was exhibited in Milan in 1929 and then presented in Spain on a global level at Expo 1929. It was then developed, in 1929, as the Luminator mannequin, in two versions "Barcelona" and "Bernocchi". The latter was produced by the Italian industrialist Antonio Bernocchi who patented it in 1931. In 1933 Pietro Chiesa's Luminator was born. Numerous other designers including Franco Albini, Achille Castiglioni and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni took inspiration from these "Luminators" for their indirect lighting lamps, revolutionizing the world of industrial design and lighting design. The prototype of the Luminator, donated by the Bernocchi family to the Municipality of Milan at the end of the 1920s, is periodically exhibited in some of the major museums in the world, in 2015 it was the subject of an exhibition at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.
