Gianni Gaetano Luporini Biography
Gianni Gaetano Luporini (1936 - 2022), born in Lucca on 28 May 1936, became a famous composer in turn, as well as being also known as a painter and poet. His training began with the study of the violin and, later, of composition. In 1956 he was admitted to the Conservatory of Florence, where he studied with Roberto Lupi, who introduced him to the anthroposophy of Rudolf Steiner, knowledge of which constituted a fundamental experience in his human and artistic journey. In Florence, his fellow students included Sylvano Bussotti and Giancarlo Cardini. In 1962 he graduated in composition and began teaching music education in some schools in Garfagnana and Lucca. In 1968 he obtained the chair of Harmony and Counterpoint at the Conservatory of Florence, where he remained until 1986; from this date until 2003 he was Director of the "Luigi Boccherini" Musical Institute in Lucca. Winning result of numerous national and international competitions, among which we remember the first prize in the National Composition Competition announced by the municipal theater of Florence on the occasion of the third international Gaspar Cassadó Cello Competition, with the piece Musica for cello and piano (1972) and first prize at the Angelicum International Composition Competition in Milan in 1977, with Kontakion (1976). His pieces have been performed at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Teatro della Pergola, Teatro Verdi di Pisa, Teatro del Giglio, Teatro dei Differenti and others, as well as being broadcast by Italian and foreign radio organisations.
