Tammar Luxoro was an Italian painter born in Genoa on 11 February 1825. In 1842, he attended the Ligustica Academy of Fine Arts, following the courses of Domenico Pasquale Cambiaso, a landscape painter. In 1849, Luxoro, together with other artists, founded the Society for the Promotion of Fine Arts, with the aim of making deserving young artists known to the city. In 1874, he became director of the School of landscape from life, at the Accademia Ligustica. Luxoro was responsible for the protection and restoration of the historical monuments of Genoa and held the position of Royal Inspector of excavations and monuments in the city. Until his death, he continued to work within the Accademia Ligustica, supporting the importance of teaching the history of art to raise awareness among the new generations of the protection of the historical-artistic heritage. Tammar Luxoro died in Genoa on 25 November 1899.
