S. Macioce Biography
Stefania Macioce is a professor of History of Modern Art at Sapienza University of Rome from 2005 to 2022, having previously taught at the Universities of Udine and Malta. She is a renowned expert and curator, participating in numerous conferences, symposia and exhibitions both in Italy and abroad, with particular attention to the artistic figure of Caravaggio, with whom she worked for approximately thirty years. Her documentary research in the State Archives of Rome and Milan, as well as in the Archive of the Order of Malta in Valletta, allowed her to acquire important knowledge of Caravaggio's life and work. In 2003, he published the volume "Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio. Sources and documents and inventories", considered an important contribution to the knowledge of the Lombard genius. In 2010, she published "Caravaggio and the Knights of Malta", which earned her the Cross of Merit of the Sovereign Order of Malta. In 2013, he published "La Musica al tempo di Caravaggio". Furthermore, she dedicated herself to other themes such as the painting of the Ferrara court of the fifteenth century, late Roman mannerism, musical iconography and the symbolic aspects of gems. In 2018, he published two books: "When painting speaks", on the relationship between painting and gestures derived from classical oratory, and "Arte in moda", in which he collaborated with the great master of Italian fashion Roberto Capucci, examining the influence of art in fashion. Thanks to her important research and publications, Stefania Macioce has been highly appreciated in the world of Italian and international studies.
