Jules Émile Élisée Maclet was a French impressionist painter, born on 12 April 1881 in Picardy, famous above all for his views of Montmartre. Since his family was poor, Maclet began working very young as his father's assistant, but in 1906 he decided to dedicate himself to art, despite his father's opposition. He then moved to Montmartre where he worked occasionally to support himself while he painted. Despite all the difficulties, Maclet found time to paint and quickly acquired a circle of admirers. The art dealer Dosbourg purchased some of his works, allowing him to have a reliable source of income and to be able to dedicate himself more and more to painting. In addition to Montmartre, Maclet also painted the suburbs of Paris. He died on 23 April 1962 at the Lariboisière hospital in Paris.
