Mario Mafai Volpe (Rome, 12 February 1902 – Rome, 31 March 1965) was an Italian painter, initiator, in 1929, together with Scipione (artist) and Antonietta Raphaël, they formed a group known as "Scuola Romana" artistic group.
Eleonora De Blasis was born in Sant'Angelo, to an unknown father. The surname Mafai, completely fictitious, was attributed to him by the midwives upon registration at the registry office; the latter's surname was postponed in 1935 as it was endorsed by his mother's then partner, Mario Volpe.
