[bio already present in n.675] Domenico Fedeli, known as Maggiotto, was born in Venice around 1713. From the age of ten he showed a vocation for the fine arts. Thus, his father sent him to work in the workshop of another great Venetian painter of that time, Giovanni Battista Piazzetta.
Piazzetta's influence on the early part of Fedeli's artistic career was very strong and can be perceived in his early paintings. However, after the master's death, Fedeli sought other sources of artistic inspiration, developing a tendency that translates into impersonal eclecticism. Among his most famous works are "Bust of a Bearded Old Man with Oak Branch and Mistletoe", "Girl with the Flute" and "The Mousetrap", often featuring significant use of chiaroscuro.
Fedeli died in his hometown, Venice, on 16 April 1794.
