Pietro Magni was born in Milan in 1816. He attended the Brera Academy in Milan and later studied with the sculptor Abbondio Sangiorgio, being influenced by neoclassical sculpture. In 1849, he made a study trip to Rome, where he actively participated in the Roman Republic. Starting from the 1950s, he participated in exhibitions, where he attracted attention with groups and statues that used the harmony of beauty and a strong realism. Magni obtained important commissions such as that of creating a group dedicated to Carlo Alberto, which today is located in the Risorgimento Museum in Turin. He continued to create public works with a strong expressive intensity and purist balance. In addition to official works, Magni also dedicated himself to the creation of genre works inspired by everyday life, which present a strong delicacy and a solemn and balanced approach. He also received great success in London, where he obtained numerous commissions for public works to be placed in the city. Pietro Magni died in Milan in 1877 at the age of sixty-one.
