Aristide Maillol was born on 8 December 1861 in Banyuls-sur-Mer, France. He began by attending drawing courses until 1885, then decided to attend the School of Fine Arts in Paris to cultivate his passion for art. Aristide became passionate about sculpture, especially the study of the human body, and began sculpting in 1895. Maillol created tapestries and paintings in the Nabi style, demonstrating his artistic versatility. Aristide Maillol was an independent artist who was not linked to any avant-garde movement. The artist sought the harmony of forms and mainly sculpted monumental and busty female nudes. The characters represented in his works were often nymphs or simply women in moments of everyday life. With the arrival of the new century, Maillol began to create numerous public monuments, such as the Monument to Auguste Blanqui. Aristide Maillol died on 27 September 1944 in his hometown, Banyuls-sur-Mer.
