Alvaro Mairani Vicini was born in Milan in 1913. Active during the Second World War with "Fra Diovali" [Brother Devil] (1941-42), a popular nickname for the leader of the 18th century French resistance. Around those years, Alvaro illustrated books for the SEI of Turin, including Queens of poetry by Olga Visentini (1943), Pippo and Claretta by Daria Banfi-Malaguzzi and A treasure among the rags by Ida Spinelli (1946) and Belfiore - Novel of the Martyrs by Olga Visentini (1952).
