Antonio Malchiodi Biography
Antonio Malchiodi (Piacenza, June 1848 – Nembro, 1915) was an Italian painter, mainly a portraitist. He began his studies at the Gazzola Institute in Piacenza, and obtained a contribution from the institute (and the municipality) to travel to Rome. Here, at the Accademia di San Luca, he studied under a painter originally from Bergamo, Francesco Coghetti. Among his works, The Bird's Nest; The reproach; Ox; Don Rodrigo; Communion; Baptism; St Jerome; Childhood and Old Age; Ciceruacchio; The Awards Ceremony, commissioned by the Ministry of Education. He also completed four paintings for the family funeral chapel of former minister Doppino. Furthermore, he was a teacher at the Art Academy of Modena, but also in Brescia and Turin. His final year he devoted himself to painting the landscape of the surroundings of Bergamo, and he also became known for historical paintings, including “The Last Consolation of Torquato Tasso” painted only after visiting the room in the convent of Sant'Onofrio where the poet expired.
